About Notification 9/2025
Notification 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate) is the CBIC notification that sets IGST rates on imports into India, effective 22 September 2025. It supersedes earlier IGST rate notifications and defines seven schedules:
- Schedule I — 5% — essentials, basic food, drugs, footwear under ₹1,000
- Schedule II — 18% — default for most manufactured goods and services
- Schedule III — 40% — high-rate items (specific goods added in the 2025 revision)
- Schedule IV — 3% — gold, silver, certain precious metals
- Schedule V — 0.25% — rough diamonds and related items
- Schedule VI — 1.5% — cut and polished diamonds
- Schedule VII — 28% — luxury and sin goods (vehicles, tobacco, aerated drinks); typically also subject to Compensation Cess
The notification maps every HSN code or chapter prefix to one of these schedules. Specific exceptions within a schedule are listed inline in the notification text — the tool above surfaces these where present.
Frequently asked questions
What is Notification 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate)?▼
It's the CBIC notification that sets IGST rates on imports, effective 22 September 2025. It defines seven schedules (I–VII) with rates 5%, 18%, 40%, 3%, 0.25%, 1.5%, and 28% respectively, mapping each rate to the specific HSN codes or chapter prefixes it applies to.
How do I find the IGST rate for my HSN?▼
Type your HSN code or product description into the search box above. The tool walks from the most specific prefix (8-digit) down to less specific (6, 4, 2 digit) until it finds a matching rule in the notification — that's the schedule and rate that applies to your import.
What's the default IGST rate?▼
18% (Schedule II). If a specific HSN isn't covered by Schedules I, III, IV, V, VI, or VII, it defaults to 18%. Most manufactured goods sit in Schedule II.
Is IGST the same as domestic GST?▼
IGST applies to imports and inter-state supplies; for domestic intra-state supplies the equivalent is CGST + SGST (each at half the IGST rate). The schedules in Notification 9/2025 specifically cover imports — for domestic GST rates refer to the parallel CGST notifications.
Can the IGST notification override the schedule's default?▼
Yes — the notification text often includes 'exceptions' for specific items within a schedule (e.g. 'all goods except those covered under...'). The search above shows the exception text where present. For an authoritative reading, refer to the full notification PDF.
